This is a clip of an arrangement of Leonard Berstein's "Maria' made famous by Maynard Ferguson as played by Italian trumpet player Andrea Tofanelli with the San Diego State University Jazz Orchestra directed by Bill Yeager on March 16, 2010
Beautiful - quite excellent! (It's never fair to compare to the original. IF there had been no MF - how many of us would even try to play those high notes!?)
I give anyone credit for attempting this. He actually does a great job. A thousand times better then I or most could do. A great player for sure. Not really fair to compare to Maynard. He was the only one who could play those notes up there in a romantic way when he was younger. Others can play them, but not romantically.

Perfect control in the high notes.
i agree about romantic style - but this is great. Just a very few can do this with same clear and focused sound.
Keep on playing all you trumpet folks!

Proof that just hitting the notes is not enough. Mangled the lyric nature of the figures in this tune.

Tofanelli tastelessly mangling another Maynard classic.
