This odd cartoon, now in the public domain, features cartoon savages morphing into members of Louis Armstrong's band.

The word was Victrola. But you probably have the meaning right.

I always wish the Fleischer Bros could have made more animated shorts with Pops and his band in them.

When I clicked on this, I did not expect to see the disembodied head of Louis Armstrong chasing a clown and his strange monkey-headed-dog-thing companion as they tried to rescue Betty Boop. The racism? That I expected. Just sayin', it was 1932.

These cartoons are priceless Americana, freezing as they do a single second of the American social experience. The characters, the animator, the producer, the Band . . . these were all top-quality talents and their collaboration is surreal art of the highest order. Kudos to all and thanks for the post!

I guess it's worthwhile to bear in mind that most cartoons back then weren't geared towards children. That's probably why even Looney Tunes was graphically violent.

This is pretty racist, when you look (not very) closely, but that's the only way we get some of these great videos and audio recordings of Satchmo.
