SEA DOGS COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP

SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- For the second straight weekend, the Saint John Sea Dogs won three games in three nights, capped by a 5-2 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar Sunday at Harbour Station.

The Sea Dogs scored four goals and outshot the Drakkar 25-4 in the third period as they completed the weekend sweep before a crowd of 4,817 on Francofans day.

Tomas Jurco led the way with two goals and two assists, scoring the game-winner midway through the third. Michael Kirkpatrick finished with a goal and two assists and Nathan Beaulieu and Danick Gauthier also found the back of the net. Jonathan Huberdeau chipped in two assists, while Mathieu Corbeil made 17 saves for the win.

Alexandre Durette had both Baie-Comeau goals and Jason Missiaen made 42 saves in the loss.

The Sea Dogs improved to 41-5-1-2, including a 23-0-1-1 mark at home, while Baie-Comeau fell to 7-37-5-4

Beaulieu got the Sea Dogs on the board at 7:19 of the first period. With the Sea Dogs already on a power play and an extra attacker out for a delayed penalty, Beaulieu fired a snapshot from the top of the left-wing circle to beat Missiaen. Jurco and Kirkpatrick had the assists on the goal, Beaulieu's 11th of the season.

Saint John outshot Baie-Comeau 12-3 in the first period, but the Drakkar charged back in the second, logging the first 10 shots of the frame. They were rewarded with Durette's first goal at 9:11, on a shot from the right wing. Durette then gave the Drakkar a 2-1 lead on Baie-Comeau's fifth power play of the game, banging in a rebound at 13:44 of the second.

The Sea Dogs picked up the pace late in the second, with Jurco hitting the post on a snapshot from the hash marks with about two minutes to go, but the 2-1 score held until Gauthier got a shot through traffic at 6:05 of the third. Ryan Tesink picked up an assist on the goal, Gauthier's ninth, and Mike Thomas was also buzzing around the net.

Jurco put the Sea Dogs ahead for good with an electrifying goal at 10:01. The slick Slovakian came flying through the slot, dancing between the defenders and finishing a perfect pass Kirkpatrick sent from behind the net. Huberdeau had the other assist.

Kirkpatrick extended the lead to 4-2 at 12:12, taking Huberdeau's pass from behind the net and burying it for his 20th of the year. Jurco picked up the other assist, then added his second of the night at 15:27, also his 20th. Eric Gelinas and Kevin Gagne assisted on the play.
