  • Looks great. I think I made the right decision in importing the US edition, rather than buying the UK one. Better design and both volumes in one book.

  • An extraordinary book gets an equally extraordinary book design. This is truly literature coming to life, speaking in terms of graphic design. Thank you!

  • When HM gets the Nobel Prize in 2012, it will be for his entire body of work, but most

notably for Norwei no Mori..... watch! next fall!

  • @MrDanbloom's unintelligible ramblings are reminiscent of what commonly considered by modern psychologists as schizophrenia.

  • @MrDanbloom Such clumsy, ungrammatical criticisms leveled by a man who's ability to string together intelligent sentences resembles that of an idiot child flinging shit in an asylum.

  • Kudos to Chris yes, re ''Not just an ordinary cover. The amazing design extends inside the book as well.

  • So: a nothin book with a great cover. So what's new in publishing circles. The entire Murakami thing is a manufactured, hyped PR maven's wet dream. The only book worth reading, je dois repeter, is Norwei no Mori. The rest is playtime for juvenile minds who cannot imagine their own worlds......Most Japanese men never mature past the age of 13. In HM's case, he made it to 19.

  • Chris, Maslin said it better than I can: adding: A word about packaging........ .......... there is a startlingly clever Chip Kidd cover to create an air of the irresistible. The actual text? Not so much.

  • Chris, Maslin said it better than I can: re: ''A word about packaging: The three volumes that have been collected for American readers in the composite version of “1Q84” hang together about as well as the three parts of Roberto Bolaño’s similarly published (and far better) “2666” did. Each of these omnibus books has bright, incisive passages interspersed with abundant filler.

  • Chris, the only book worth reading by Murakami is NORWEGIAN WOOD. Read that book and you will understand why. End of a story. Case closed. But do read it before you flame me. His entire "career" after that book was staged managed by marketing execs in cahoots with bottom line spread sheets. And they purposefully kept Norwegian Wood out of the limelight and the market in the USA in order to create the "persona" to sell these other books. Read NW and to understand that all the rest is hype.
