I HATE that sentiment to not cheer for someone because they are playing "gay". Armada and Hbox are playing to WIN. That's the POINT of tournaments. This match was one of the most entertaining I've ever watched because you can feel their emotions throughout. The tension, strategy, and frustration are really evident and contribute to the match. It's not all about APM and crazy tech skill; sometime you have to sit back and watch the chess game. (ps: still better than Brawl)

the first time i watched this video, i was angry at hmw's bitching. however, after watching the most depressing grand finals ever in apex 2012, i understand where he is coming from, and even though i understand theyre both playing to win, it's just not the type of match id like to see, especially in grand finals. it's matches like these that make the people who call brawl gay eat there words

@Artaneius I assure you, with players like Mango and PP and Javi still around the game will be fine and live. I mean hell it's been around long enough really, be thankful it's lasted this long. It's human nature to attack. To be offensive. There will always be a yin to this yang. But in the long run, slow and steady wins the race. A positional chess player will usually beat a tactical chess player. But find a person who merges the two just right, and you will have a thing of beauty.

@Artaneius At the end of round 1 I believe Armada went in and did some actual damage. Find two players whose entire style isn't based around defense and you'll get a more entertaining match. I don't recall any other matches being as "campy" as this one. It's the Grand Finals, Armada traveled across the whole world man. lol I can't blame him for playing to win. You're assuming the whole smash community is going to turn into this.

Then that person takes a risk, which is the opposite of what people like you are going to do when playing for money. Again, that mentality of not wanting to ever make mistakes is whats going to eventually kill Melee. Look at Halo, one of the most skilled games because of the button glitches and now every smart team camps and then spawn camps. Do you want the same thing to happen to Melee, because people don't want to take chances?
-
@Artaneius I beg to differ. All it takes is one player to get ballsy and just run in. But who wants to lose? The game has progressed a lot more than it has back in the Ken days. Yeah I like the combos and aggressive style, that's why Mango is my dude. But when it comes down to skill, I like Armada's YL. It's pretty tight.

@Artaneius So the rest of the whole tournament was a drag? I'm sorry but you got your entertainment watching PP and Mango and Javi and kirbyKaze and everything like that. These guys are in it to win it and as a community who comes and supports competition they should respect that. They can't beat these players, just like HMW said. Boring but effective.
-
Maximum respect for Armada's peach, but his YL is a fucking pussy

If people didn't watch or enjoyed Melee, none of these tournaments would even exist. The pros do owe the spectators a fun and interesting tournament. Like it or not, prize money, venue costs, food, tvs, gamecube/wii systems, and other tournament needs aren't cheap and the spectators and sponsors are whats keeping this going. TO especially in melee take a lot of sacrifices in their own pocket to make tournaments happen. The pros can at least provide a good show/

Again, if I wanted to participate in a REAL war, I would join the service. In video games I wish to play them especially Melee like it always has since tournaments started for Melee. Where the most SKILLED player wins, not who can turn a beautiful fighting game into a cod rip off.

You can't flush people out in a fighting game, its not like a shooter where one can chuck a grenade and camper gets punished. If you ignore them all together then the match lasts until the time expires which again creates a long boring stupid match. This kind of gameplay is the complete opposite of what competitive Melee has always been about since Ken days starting from 03-04. It's not fun to play or watch these kind of matches.

@Artaneius If someone is camping, then you know where they are camping at and probably can find ways to kill them, flush them out, or just ignore them altogether. Knowing when to retreat is also good. Just because a person that camps is better at predicting where you are coming from doesn't mean he is a dick or has no skill. You're just the dumbass for going straight back to where he is just to get killed.
Why'd Hbox lose game 1? He won in camping, so why'd armada get the sudden death stock??

@SC2V Nobody said HBox lost the first game. Sudden Death doesn't count and is just for fun.
