Dolby Surround 7.1 (2010-)

7.1 surround sound in a home theater was just a novelty, until now. Dolby innovates sound once again with Dolby Surround 7.1, the first 7.1 theatrical sound system since the ill-fated SDDS. This trailer/logo premiered on June 18, 2010 in conjunction the first Dolby Surround 7.1 film, "Toy Story 3."

There have been many complaints about the 7.1 surround sound in the Dolby TrueHD format, exclusive for Blu-Ray. It regards to how the added 2 channels are in mono, making it truly 6.1 channels (similar to Dolby Digital EX). A good thing to say was that film was not mixed in 7.1, so Dolby TrueHD tried to emulate the master copy of the EX track. Dolby Surround 7.1 should be complementary to their Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA counterparts, I think. This technology is just brand-new.
