@bombaykitty this is from 1999. it was produced by the same producer and had the some of the same actors such as liu xialingtong. this can be considered to be part of the original series. this was filmed to cover the chapters that were not covered in the 1986 version. the story is told through flashbacks

That may be your opinion, but for those of us who grew up knowing that this was the original, no other adaptions come even close to this one. Even with the bad effects given the time when it was filmed, it remains a favourite.
