gopro freefall from 12500 without case

bumped my head on the door frame on exit unclasping the latch on the box. The camera popped out on exit at 12.500 and fell straight down onto the landing area at the DZ and was recovered by a fellow skydiver. It even caught our landings. Not one scratch on the body or lens. Still can't believe that I got it back and that it is totally fine. A buddy the same day who is one of our camera flyers had the same thing happen but with his SLR....not the same result. I'm definitely a gopro fan for life these little guys are bomb proof

Morgan - it was still on my helmet. The latch was popped open and the back door opened letting the camera fall out.

I calculated the mean linear speed of the camera to be about 108 km/h (67.11 mi/h).

The free fall of the camera started about 0:33 and the device reached the ground around 2:40. It lasted for 127 seconds. The free fall started approximately at an altitude of 12,500 feet or 3,810 meters.

3,810 m /127 s = 30 m/s = 108 km/h ≈ 67.11 mi/h

You didn't take into account drag force (air resistance) and buoyancy! When the sum of the drag force and buoyancy equals the downward force of gravity the falling object reaches its top speed and the acceleration is of course zero (0 m/s²).

Wow! 1- that was VERY interesting n fun to watch n I lost that "I'm gina have a seizure!" feeling at about 2:03 -2 this is the second video of this type I've seen - the other a girl was jumping of cliffs in Belize or Brazil or somewhere n dropped her gopro underwater - it sat, still recording for a good while until one of her guy friends swam down found it n brought it back up to her - IM.FUKIN SOLD!! I'LL BE BUYING A GOPRO3 ASAP!! - Thanx again Abrams!

here put your phone on video throw your phone into the air and put some spin on it and then watch it will look alot alike. and remember the gopro landed on grass, say the gopro landed on concrete then it might have exploded
