The dramatic overrepresentation of both young African American and Hispanic males and firearms in homicide is not unique to chicago, nor are these patterns new. Yet over the past 50 years, our society has made far less progress in understanding how to protect our citizens from gun violence (and violence more broadly) than we have learned about how to protect citizens from other serious threats to life and health.
The social costs of gun violence in Chicago total about $2.5 billion each year.
I was inspired to produce a chilling educational documentary with shock value on the effects of Gun violence more than 8 years ago. I finally received approval to film 3 years ago however, not without having gone through a lot of red tape.
This is just a trailer of hours of footage that i shot and directed myself. Most of which was on my own personal time with my personal video equipment as well in the wee midnight hours throughout the summer waiting for stories to unfold in the Cook County trauma unit and in different neighborhoods.
The full story on how gun violence effects our society, neighborhoods, families, schools, courts, jails and hospitals needs to be told.
So sad indeed...only one comment? Amazing where our priorities are! The whole story does need to be told. I thank God for you my friend, & I pray He continues to bless you to the mouthpiece He made you to be. :-)
