Wrong - North Korea favors unification - originally they wanted a socialist republic from North to South. Now they want a kind of federal republic where both sides keep their own government system.

no the reasons are north korean citizens are not allowed to leave the country and this match was also a dead rubber, south korea had already qualified at this point.

North Korea qualified as well. Basically this was just a filler game - though one with political implications...

Seriously, I don't know how the team made it back to Pyongyand without a defection...

sorry i take it back, this was 2008 not 2009. if it were june 22, 2009, south korea had already qualified 2 weeks beforehand.
