----------
Today's origami lesson is two hundred and four is almost the end of another year. In Japan we honor the Chinese Zodiac. Figurines are placed at the entrance of homes featuring the animal for that year in hopes of bringing good luck into the house. However, we do not celebrate New Years at the same times as the Chinese. Our celebrations are on December 31st and then the first three day of the New Year at least, if not the first week. Oshougatsu is perhaps the most important holiday in Japan.

Today's origami is the Rat (Mouse).
Rat characteristics are: Those who are born in the year of the rat are known to be innovative, intelligent and full of crafty ideas. They are also people who know how to make the best of a situation, making it their advantage. They are also collectors by nature, and are probably the only ones who are awake when the world is asleep. Rats basically need to be careful with their temper and greed. They are best matched with the Dragons and Monkeys. Their archenemies are the Horses. (taken from: http://www.thingsasian.com)
