@kyrie73 I agree. I heard LHL sing this "live" with Tilson-Thomas and Chicago SO in March 2006. I said to myself then, as the tears rolled off my cheeks, that Dame Janet in her prime would've been hard-pressed to match what I'd just heard. Sunday 7/3/2011 marks the fifth anniversary of her death.
Completely beautiful. What an amazing, moving, and completely committed singer Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson was. This is a remarkable piece for her to have sung so close to the end of her life.
I was in the chorus when this recording was made, and each eveing when Lorraine sang this movement it was magical. Of course the whole piece was fabulous, but I remember Lorraine's contribution vividly, even after several ears.
It's Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, the now-immortal mezzo-soprano. In March 2006,I heard LHL sing this with MTT and the Chicago Symphony, in what proved to be the penultimate performance of her life. I will never forget it... indeed it's the one performance I want to remember on my own deathbed.

Thank you. Perhaps the most beautiful of this song / movement that I've ever heard bar late Janet Baker with Rattle.

@KozenaFan it was her last public performance according to WIkipedia. It is very tragic.

Why isn't the singer credited on this?
