Do you or someone you know deserve a scholarship to Western Governors University?
Earning a college degree can be a life changing experience. In many cases, a little help financially can go a long way towards achieving this goal. Do you or someone you know deserve a scholarship to WGU? Whether you make us laugh, or make us cry, tell us how a degree from WGU could improve your life or the life of someone you know.
Western Governors University (http://www.wgu.edu) continues to offer opportunities for adult learners to have access to quality, affordable education, as the only fully-accredited, online university that is competency-based. As part of that effort, WGU is hosting a unique video contest with a valuable scholarship as its prize. Contestants are asked to submit a video explaining why they deserve to earn a scholarship and how earning a degree from WGU will change their life or the life of someone they know.
The window for video submissions is open from June 11, 2008 to August 11, 2008. All genres of videos—including humor and drama—are encouraged. A WGU panel will review all of the video submissions after the August 11, 2008, deadline and select five finalists based on the following criteria: quality of video (45 percent), amount of votes (40 percent) and the amount of views the video received (15 percent). Those five videos will be posted on the contest site on August 25, 2008, for the public to vote on the most deserving video for the top prize. The winner will be announced on September 3, 2008. Public voting will take place during the contest period and the voting period so entrants are encouraged to share their video with family and friends.
The winning video contestant will receive a $7,500 scholarship and a $500 cash reward, paying $1,500 per six-month term for up to five terms. The scholarship can be used for students pursuing a degree in any discipline offered by WGU in its Colleges of Business, Education, Information Technology and Health Professions. Other prizes include scholarships valued up to $3,000 and $100 Amazon.com gift certificates. (Amazon.com is not a sponsor of this contest.)
This video contest is open to the public. The scholarships are not transferable to other universities, but may be transferrable to incoming WGU students. Current WGU students and alumni who are considering a return to WGU for their master's degree are eligible to participate. The contest is subject to posted rules. For more information about submissions or to vote, please visit www.wgu.edu/contest.

I received 2nd place in the Video Scholarship competition. ($1K off the tuition each semester for 3 semesters). I want to thank everyone for the kind words, support and confidence. I just took my final exams with WGU and passed. I have official Graduated and received my Bachelor's degree in Business Management. It has been a wonderful experience! Thank You WGU, one more check mark off the list.
P.S. My son is now in complete remission from leukemia, he finishes chemo treatments next week.
Aaron is a goal setter, and a goal achiever. His whole life has been one big climb up the mountain. I guess all of us have a mountain to climb, but Aaron's seems to be much steeper and rockier than most of ours. He has been hit with so many hurdles, and never complains, and never gives up. His wife battles MS and his two year old son battles leukemia. the fact that he never mentioned this in his video shows what kind of a person he is. Please give him this scholarship!!!!
You could always give up rock climbing and serve your country to get the GI Bill - where an honorable discharge equates to one helluva scholarship and sense of commitment to your country...
congratulations! it was a close race... my heart was on edge the whole time. If you plan to attend wgu, I will make myself available to help you in any way that I can! I graduate with by bachelors in November and will attend the masters in education program in January! Vote Natalie.
Play that card, huh? The contest asked what we needed the scholarship for, and the answer was that my savings for college had disappeared in 2 $70,000 surgeries for my son. The week after I filmed the video, my baby brother broke his back, & I became his full-time caregiver. I won't dispute that Aaron could use a scholarship (who couldnt?), but making jabs isn't nice.
I don't think it was intended as a jab. It seems to me a compliment that someone could remain so charismatically positive in the face of such adversity. (His little boy is battling Leukemia). It is inspiring, really. Optimism through tribulation is something that would really help me feel more joy in my life. Thank you for your inspiring example, Aaron!!
