Before introduction of the American tree climbing, Japanese tree workers have been using a rope and two sticks to climb conifer trees for work. In the mountainous Hida region, we are trying to revive this tradition by organizing workshops. Please note that this is just one of the many Buri-nawa techniques, a variation which we consider as good compromise between efficiency and security. Tree professionals used far more quicker methods. 日本古来の木登り技法。針葉樹の枝打ちののため、木の棒2本とロープのみでよじ登る

I figure that as far as the descent goes you would basically rapell down to where you could attach the bottom stick in the same fashion as when ascending and basically repeat that process all the way down... Wonder what you'd do if you rapelled to far and used so much rope you couldn't re-attach it though ^^

  • did they used to use a rope to self-belay? Also, not quite sure how he decended? I am new to this, but how would he do it from a great hight with only one rope and two sticks. (truly interested)
