What is Lutris ?
Lutris is a gaming platform aiming to support as many games as possible for the GNU/Linux operating system. It takes care of running the game by setting up the best environement in order to provide the most enjoyable gaming experience.

You can help !
Lutris is Open Source Software and is under a GPL v3 License. Contributors are more than welcome as I has lots of work elsewhere too and I'm not able to devote 100% of my time to Lutris ;) You don't have to be a Python expert to help, just run the program, report bugs, submit your ideas, etc ...
If you happen to be a Python hacker then Lutris is a fun project to work on. I try to keep the code clean and understandable. If you read the code and find some things that are badly designed or could be improved, don't hesitate to point them out.
There is all you need to start contributing right now ! If you have any question about Lutris' source code, get in touch with me and I'll happily guide you.

  • @gotbletu I do see the hyping, but I feel like it's more that there are these people who want linux to be windows + some other stuff, and they won't accept that it has a completely different base, unix vs DOS, and as you said it's a miracle that you can get ANY code to work from one to the other. Especially since wine isn't even an emulator.

But honestly I find emulators to be quite impressive also, they've gotten so good lately, even on shitty computers you can emulate like PS2 level stuff now.

  • @loldude83 haha yea true but i dont blame them much since they are new and most linux users hype up wine as the replacement to windows, so is really not the newbies fault all the time. Is mostly the linux users giving false information in the forums and such

  • @gotbletu Yeah, that, I mean I never want to use windows again, but fuck, those guys that are like "why doesn't everything just work, I want to switch to linux and use all windows applications and therefor not even bother switching to linux" make you realize why it's called "w(h)ine".

The only thing I use wine for is games, only old ones; like starcraft.

Keep on defying people's expectations on what a linux user is like, bro.

  • On OpenSuse is nice program called GameStore which is similar to that (dunno if it for only distros too, because of its connections whith YaST)

  • @dogdil1 if your talking about wine games, then that just how it is. Is a miracle that it even runs any windows stuff at all. But if u really want windows games, then use windows, dont waste time using half bake craps if u expect everything to work lols. Anyways check out playonlinux or winetricks, those might help u

  • @gotbletu So what does help in that case. Some games work and others dont. it is annoying :) any suggestions

  • @gotbletu YouTube adds some "echo" to right channel for human voice (but not for music etc), including 720 & 1080. Its really annoying. I fix this by changing audio bitrate from 128 to 192. I use mp4 for uploading videos (aac for audio), don't know your format. For example compare 10 seconds of radio:

    128 kbs - LmM13Si1CNU&hd=1&t=336s

    192 kbs - U4mN43T7Gkc&hd=1&t=70s

Are you hear the difference? :)
