I read a comment on a video where Bob Barr was saying he wants to dismantle the War on Drugs, and would let drug laws stay at the state level. The comment said that his position was a cop out. I take offense to this, as that is what is explicitly written in the 10th ammendment of our constitution. In fact, State rights is perhaps the boldest postition one can have and truly shows leadership, because whether you agree or disagree with an issue, if you allow smaller governments to handle the issue it takes it away from the powers that be and back into the hands of the people.

  • lol i live in Virgina also. Forget bob barr, im voting for Ron Paul. you're right on about states rights.

  • If I want to help try and advance liberty, I will be voting for the most libertarian or constitutional candidate on the ballot. It will either be Bob Barr or Chuck Baldwin.

  • States rights is a cop-out.

I am a libertarian by the way.

States don't have rights, individuals have rights.

  • That's exactly what's going to happen if we leave it up to the feds. New England and the Pacific Coast are on the verge of legalizing it but if the feds decide to shut it down and they are still allowed to be king of the hill whelp we can forget that.

  • Actually it's Republic.

  • Which was never constitutionally ratified and was just a blatant seizure of power. The constitution already protects all free people regardless of race. Read Lysander Spooner.

  • The problem is that the Federal Government no the bankers own the 2 major parties. The states aren't going to do anything blatantly against the federal Government as long as we keep electing Democrats and Republicans as Governors. Jesse jackson Governor of Minnesota was one of the best we've had in recent times, and he was an independent. It's time to start voting independentthird party, States rights isn't going tobe reclaimed with the Federal Reserves buddies.Time to overcome the Brainwashing.

  • I wrote in Ron paul.

  • We have a 14th Amendment for a reason.

  • As long as a state or locality does not ban the right itself (whether gay mariage, abortion, owning guns), states' rights are fine. I'm afraid on issues of gay marriage and abortion, this country is just too conservative that if we defederalized these issues, they'd just ban them all over the country. Call me a wuss, but I'm not about to take that risk when it comes to rights and freedoms.

You can pass moderate restrictions on abortion or gun ownership but absolutely no banning.

  • However, having said that, since I truly believe that gay marriage and adoption are rights deserving of gays, I do not believe we can leave it up to the states to ban. Constitutional rights must be protected on a federal level. It's the same with abortion. Those 2 issues I would now not defer back to the states since I believe they are rights, and you cannot let individual states infringe on our rights in that manner. All other issues are fair game almost.
