Here is some footage Kathleen and I took in August 1992 at Slide Lake in Eastern Oregon. We camped there a few days, fishing and snorkling the lake, and just soaking up the beauty. We were the only people on the lake the whole week we stayed there. Tom Salvino, his wife Patty, and their son Jonah, and Flora Cheadle, helped carry supplies in for us to make our stay enjoyable. Heidi, Tom's German Shepard, supervised things. Fish in the lake at that time were 12-14 inches at the biggest. When Norm and his dad, Raymond Rasmussen, fished the lake in the early 1960's, you could catch 18 inch trout at times. • Hi RJS: Thanks for taking the time to comment. Regarding you walking up to the cave that overlooks the lakes: Is is much of a cave, or does it just appear to be one from down below as you look up? And if you don't mind my asking, were you living in Grant Country when you walked up their with you dad and a friend, or living someone else? How many times did you make it to Slide Lake? Fish it much? Tons of questions! Where do you live NOW, if you don't mind saying?

    Thanks!

    Norm R.

  • @NormRasmussen2 It is probably 10 or so feet deep. I was about 6'2 at the time and I couldn't quite stand up all the way so it was a fairly decent sized. We were not and do not live in Grant County. We lived and still live in Vale, OR. I have been up to slide like 3 or 4 times, the most recent in 04. My wife, daughter and I hiked Strawberry mountain in 08 and my dad and I drew deer tags for Murderer's Creek and we hunted near Indian Springs (Creek) Butte.

  • drove through oregon this past summer. best thing i ever did being from the northeast...

  • I love the Slide Lakes. When in high school my dad, friend and I hiked up to the cave overlooking the lakes. Nice work at making it up there at 60 in the winter no less.
