Rare footage of Jonestown used by Jim Jones to lure his followers to Guyana. He promised them a socialist paradise, all the while planning to kill them. Music from the Peoples Temple choir. A book trailer for the new nonfiction book, "A Thousand Lives" by Julia Scheeres

  • If Jim Jones used that song to score his footage - and I wouldn't be surprised if he did - I might well have been moved to go to Guyana, too. Scary.

  • @ginoforever2011 His baby son was murdered right in front of him. I cut the man some slack.

  • I always questioned Tim Carter reaction after getting caught with one million dollars fleeing the jungle. Watch his 1978 interview after being taken into police custody. Something didn't fit and I believe he was one of the special 120 elite in the camp with special privilege. Check out the live news coverage of him. Hes relaxing at the pool after over 900 people died. Shocking

  • I don't care how bad things are in the USA. You don't go to a country you know nothing about. What is the definition of a JUNGLE? Nothing around... isolation. And no where to go if things don't work out..

  • Of the 7 people that were interviewed in this clip, 2 of them (Tim Carter and Jim Bogue) survived the massacre. Just keep in mind that the body count was over 900 and there were only 33 survivors.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!!

"Went to a meetin' last night..."

  • Wow I wonder if he played that jammin music at the beginning in his video too! I wouldve went if so! That rocks!

  • Jones is a coward of the highest order...and no matter his motivations for starting the People's Temple people should never be short-sighted and call it "proof" to denounce socialism OR Christianity and I'll leave it at that...

  • "Come to Jonestown, we have good food, good houses, welfare.. oh! and we might be subject to mass suicide one day.. don't bother..."
