Stephane Doueihi (also known as Douaihy) was born in Ehden in 1630, his parents were Michael, a son of a priest, and Maryam also from the same family. He was educated in Ehden until he was sent in 1641 to attend the Maronite College in Rome by his uncle Archbishop Elias Doueihi. Whilst there he showed exceptional merit in studying philosophy and theology, graduating in 1655. When he was a student he sent his free time visiting the churches and libraries of the city and recording everything he could find about the Maronites.
