A compilation of ITV Schools interval slides dating mainly from 1980 and before (although the stained glass window slides are from Spring 1985 and the David Weston locomotive slides are from Autumn 1981 and Summer 1985.)

Some of the slides are from my own recordings, but many are from material kindly supplied to me by the late Simon Luxton. Some of these were in fact sourced by Tony Currie, ex-STV announcer, and converted to video from the actual 35" slides. Huge thanks to all concerned.

The music I chose seemed very fitting - 'These are the Days of Our Lives' by Queen.

  • What a fantastic video - a great piece of music aligned to some great memories I can still somehow conjure up years later. Some interesting choices of slides they rolled out but that was part of the magic of Independant Television for Schools and Colleges. Not sure if you know the answer to this but was it simply a case of parking a camera in front of a slide and then a cut to the clock which may/may not have been filmed the same way?

  • @201081hero I'm not sure how they actually put the slides to air. I assume they used some sort of slide scanner, and the clock itself was mechanical so they would have a camera pointing at the model. I believe the regions were all sent copies of the slides (hence why STV had a load of them) but the always looked different (smaller or off-centre) when generated locally. Sometimes on Tyne Tees you would see the network and local slides in the same junction and the 'join' was very noticeable.

  • Nice compilation. I do miss programmes for schools and colleges during the day. Imagine ITV giving over morning airtime to such a noble cause today and having an advertising armistice for two-and-a half hours. Unthinkable!

  • Great stuff. Those slides (and their accompanying music)really injected some personality into the Schools presentation. Yes, the 1987 roto was technically impressive, but there was no variation.

  • Some great memories, nicely put together.

  • Totally amazing!

  • These slides are amazing! And I remember some of them. The Crab is ace!
