The pros and cons of getting your nose pierced.
Sorry I kept looking down. I wrote little notes down so I could remember to tell you everything.

My Nose Piercing Experience:
A nose piercing is just another way to express oneself like with any body modifications. The stud that is used can range of 1 mm and bigger so the stud in reality is minimal to the nose.
When I went to get my nose pierced first the she took my mother's and my photo I.D. you have to be at least 15 to get any piercing. Then what I did was sign an agreement stating that I understand the risks and cannot sue the establishment if the piercing gets infected and so forth. Their certification should be somewhere on the wall if you don't trust the piercer. Most body piercings are done in tattoo shops.
After I signed the paper, I was taken back into a room and sat in a dentist chair so it's easier to be pierced. Then the piercer sets up. She/he will show you the needle and stud that will be used to pierce, they will be sterilized and she/he will show you that either with a sticker on the package or a stamp, something along those lines. After that she/he will clean your nose with alchohol and the inside. When my piercer cleaned my eyes watered. After that she put on this brown liquid. It also sterilizes the nose. I can't remember the name they use it in hospitals, though. The name is on the tip of my tongue. Haha. If you want to know I can find out for you. After that she marked where she thought I would like the stud (you can change the position if you want). Then she took a Popsicle stick and places it inside my nose so when it is pierced the needle won't go through the septum. Then she pierced it.
As soon as the needle touches your nose your eyes will begin to water. It's just because of all the nerves in your nose. Once it is pierced the needle of course has to come out. That was the part that hurt the most since the needle pinches like heck. After that the stud is already in your nose. I don't recommend getting pierced with a hoop because it will pinch and snag on clothes more easily. Once it's pierced she put Vaseline on and then you can wipe that off in an hour or so. The Vaseline just stops anything from getting in the whole and prevents is from bleeding more. The piercing is sore still so you will notice it more. If you wear makeup be sure to take a q-tip that has been dipped in water and wipe around the area of the piercing. You don't want anything to irritate it. Now each piercing place is different but you can get the general aspect of it.
In about 2-3 months you can take out the stud that you were pierced with and change it to whatever you want. The nose heals very quickly so if you take the stud out put one back immediately. It will close within the day.
There is 5 different types of nose rings: nose bone (just a straight piece of jewelry that has the jewel at the top and a small ball at the end to help it stay in the nose), nose screw (same as a nose bone but is curved at the bottom. These are the best to use since they wont fall out as easily, but are very hard to get in. This is what the piercer will use. If you have any trouble getting one in you can go back to the place that you got pierced at and they should help you put it in.), L-shape stud (it is shaped just like an L and has a jewel at the top), fish-tail (it is like a bone but without the ball at the end and is longer), and of course a hoop. When buying nose jewelry you want to get either a 18 or 20 gauge (smaller the number the thicker the stem will be) you don't want to stretch out the hole. Every time you change the jewelry you want to clean your hand and sterilized the jewelry. You can use rubbing alcohol for the jewelry.
Now the pain is comparable to getting a cartilage pierced and just as quick. You find that you don't realize until you get pierced how much you move your nose. I have my nose pierced, lip pierced, 2 holes on each ear lobe, 1 cartilage, and an industrial bar and I say that a nose piercing is about a 2 on a range of 1-10 (1 being a bruise and 10 being a broken bone).
How can u tell what size gauge a nose ring is? because i want to get a new nose ring but i don't know what size gauge to get

@Toogieteen
I would go with a 18 or 20 gauge, it should say on the packaging.

what gauge needle or needle thickness did they use for your nose?

@BlissfulMary
I don't really know what the gauge was but the bigger the needle the easier the nose jewelry will go in.
