Mamod have listened to Model Steam fans & Garden Rail enthusiasts and improved their 'Mamod Train' with the New Mamod Locomotive Mark II. To avoid confusion the 'Mamod Train' is now called the New Mamod Locomotive Mark I.

The Mark II improvements are a Cab located in-line lubricator, a redesigned chimney which is now a smoking chimney with a brass chimney cowl, Brass cab window spectacles, and it is supplied with Steam Oil and a Gas Refill Adapter for EN 417 cartridges.

  • hello , thank you making such an explanatory video. I am a bit confused as regards to their names. I believe its the Mamod William mk II with the slide valve engine, does this version come with a regulator in cab?

  • The Mamod William II regulator is mounted on top of the boiler and gets very hot whilst running.

  • Hello Chris, I do have one question, can the old (1980s) Mamod loco steamchest be exchanged with this one?

  • No, the original Mamod loco steam chest nut is amuch larger thread. You can put the original brass steam chest cover on top of the Mark II one but it is not a perfect fit due to the larger boiler diameter.

  • Has anyone else noticed the white bit of the box say 14 or with supervision and the purple 16 ?

  • The purple box sleeve is actually printed for the Limited Edition Golden Jubilee Steam Locomotive, which then has the white overlay stuck on top. Hence the 2 ages printed.

  • @ChrisCairns59 Thanks Chris. I was wondering as I already had a pre-drillled chest-nut for a Van Dort lubricator for an early Mamod, so re-fitting it for a water filler valve as you suggested would have been much easier.

  • @ChrisCairns59 Ahh ok, I take it that a repaint with some good heat resistant paint and stuff would keep it looking nicer longer?

  • No, it uses a ceramic gas burner, the same as the Mark 1, Jubilee & William locos.

  • Does it still use the pellets or something else?

The only issue I have with the older Mamod locos was how the boiler gets parched after a while.
