Cadfael Tribute

Cadfael is the fictional detective in a series of murder mysteries based on Ellis Peters' novels.

The "Cadfael" tv show ran for four series from 1994 to 1997 and incorporated thirteen stories from the 20 main novels, all episodes were 90 minutes long. The acclaimed English thespian Derek Jacobi starred as the medieval sleuth.

Herbalist at St. Peter and St. Paul's Abbey in Shrewsbury, Cadfael becomes a monk after going on the First Crusade as a soldier and later living few years as a sailor. The stories are set between 1137 and 1142, they are informed by contemporary events such as the battles of King Stephen and the travails of clergymen, dames, widows, shepherds and the noble born.

The series was filmed in Hungary because the producers could not find enough "old" landscape around the Welsh borders. They built Cadfael's world using local craftsmen. However, filming was occasionally spoiled by trains heading towards Budapest.

I love Brother Cadfael!! My family also has the box set; I grew up with the Medieval monk sleuth! This song is meant for Brother Cadfael. :) Because you used it in this tribute my brother bought it! The books are fantastic.

By far the bast tribute I've ever seen. Really captures the drama and emotion of what Cadfael was about. Superb show. Its good to see Jacobi is living upto his playboy image - did you see the pics of him leaving that strip bar? Talk about a DIRTY HABIT!!

Cadfael is AWESOME. I have the dvd boxset (how sad am i), it is just a pity they never filmed all of the episodes Ellis Peters wrote. One of the greatest series ever made.

I am new to the cadfael series. I love history and especially this era going through to the mid 1500's and the downfall of the monastries. Check out the matthew shardlake books by C. J Sansom. He is a modern day shakespeare.

Can't beat Cadfael. I found a 'Cadfael: The Complete Collection' box set for a bargain price on a local market stall the other day. Quality series.

Very good upload. I've got the DVD box-set as well. Great series with excellent episodes. Interesting that they had three different Hugh Beringer's over the course of the series. Trying to find the original soundtrack for this series is nigh-on impossible! The opening-scene music to the episode "The Raven in the Foregate" is inspiring. Anyone interested in the earlier part of the Medieval period should watch this series. Very good viewing.
