Students will learn about the nature, scope and impact of catastrophic events on individuals, families, societies, civilizations, and the Earth itself.

The central theme of the course is "How do humans behave in catastrophic times?"

The course begins (the entire first week) and ends (the last 4 days) with a "Catastrophic Event Simulation" (The Coronal Mass Ejection Incident - resulting in a Zombie Pandemic).

Students are assigned into Survivor Groups located throughout the United States and must face the challenges of living and surviving together during a catastrophic event.

"In a time of catastrophe, some people find their humanity; other lose theirs." Glenn Stutzky

I'd take this class in an absolute heartbeat. Just to say I did it, and have that under my belt. I don't ever think zombies will happen... but if it's going to be an armageddon of some kind, it better be zombies.

I can deal with the walking dead... I can't deal with earthquakes, floods, and the world splitting in two.

From a graduate level behaviorist perspective this could be an interesting course on human behavior. But the fact that it has a lot to do with the least likely scenario (zombies) and the fact that it is a 200 level, 2 credit class. Once again MSU three steps forward and two steps back.

It's OK, it's just a dramatization. Every good teacher demonstrates not only what to do, but what *not* to do.

So we're supposed to learn how to survive a zombie apocalypse from a guy who stared a zombie in the face and didn't even try to get away. Should have thought about the class name "SURVIVING the zombie apocalypse" while making this video.
