Hello on this Friday, the 11 day of April 2008. I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update.
A Marine suspected of killing a pregnant colleague is now in police custody. Authorites arrested Cpl Cesar Laurean yesterday in Mexico after a three-month international manhunt. His fellow Marine's remains were found in January in the backyard of his home in North Carolina. Laurean told police he slept in fields and survived by eating fruit that he found.
American Airlines is canceling 595 more flights today to inspect for faulty wiring. The move comes after federal regulators called for new inspections this week after previous repairs failed to meet Federal Aviation Administration standards. In the past three days, the airline has grounded nearly 2,500 flights because of inspection issues. Tens of thousands of passengers have been affected nationwide.
Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines has filed for bankruptcy protection. But unlike other airlines that have filed for bankruptcy in recent weeks, the company says it plans to keep running while it reorganizes. The low-cost carrier says it's been affected by rising fuel costs and the credit crisis in financial markets. ATA Airlines, Skybus and Aloha airgroup have all filed for bankruptcy recently.
Fire officials in Terre Haute, Indiana are investigating an early morning fire that destroyed Senator Hillary Clinton's campaign headquarters there. Two women were reportedly inside the headquarters when the fire broke out. Both got out safely. There's no word on what caused the fire and where it started.
That's all for now. Check out our weekly wrap-up from the White House on upi.com today. For all of us at UPI, have a safe and pleasant weekend.
