Extended column snow test in the Rattlesnake Mtns. 12/17/09. This is 95cm total snow depth. Thin ice layer is at 50cm where the failure occurs. Faceted snow that formed in early Dec. is widespread in our advisory area. This scored ECTP#6 another ECT in the same spot scored ECT#3 all Q1 shears. This is on a FLAT aspect. Lots of whoompfing, fracture propagations and recent avy activity above 7000'. This condition is not going to get better anytime soon so be looking for it! 50cm of faceted snow at the ground.
