Starsuckers documentary: The illusion of celebrity endorsed charity

Starsuckers is a British documentary showing an attempt to expose the "shams and deceit involved in creating a pernicious celebrity culture".

Directed by Chris Atkins, it shows the production team planting a variety of celebrity-related stories in the UK media, such as a claim that Avril Lavigne had been seen asleep in a nightclub. A variety of tabloid newspapers accepted the stories without corroboration or evidence.

On October 23rd 2009, the makers of Starsuckers reported that they had received an email from the law firm Carter-Ruck, acting on behalf of Max Clifford and threatening them with an injunction over their film.

Released in British cinemas in November 2009 to critical acclaim.
