Changing the thermo couple and the gas valve on a gas heat water tank.
Be patient with me, it was my first video, it starts to get better @ 4:00, I realize that my camera work sucks but, I just wanted to give you an idea of how to do it yourself and to educate those who are in a fix like I was when the tank stopped heating the water.
Please ask me any questions and I will answer ASAP.
Be careful, GAS goes BOOM! )-:\ Do the leak test after attaching the lines again.

  • What is the price range for hot water heater control gas valves?

  • @SteamerJohanson I called the number on the tank and they sent it with no charge. I would guess approx.$100.00? Cheers.

  • This is great! I have to replace the thermocouple on my heater, and I have exactly the same heater. The plate at the bottom kind of freaked me out, but seeing that you did it, I'm feeling a little better about it.

  • @NorthWriter Thanks for the comment.

Let me know how it goes, better yet, video tape it and upload it to YT.(-:\>

Remember to always check for leaks.

    ~Cheers~

  • I thought the water heater needed to be off the floor for safety, BOOM!!!!!

  • Yes! the hot water tank needs to be off the floor to allow air flow throught the vent @ the bottom. If you look closely you will see that the tank is raised about 3 inches.

The tank was initially installed by the gas company, I just did the repairs.

Yes! BOOM! if your not carefull. Watch @ 5:55 to do a gas leak test.

    Thanks for watching

    Cheers

  • If you replace the control valve, don't drain the tank, just shut off the water take off the pressure through a faucet, change the valve on the fly. Its much quicker.

  • I had replace the control valve and the problom was still there. light kept going out. . i follow your instructions and replace the termo couple . and it's working great now .

  • @Buchoass thanks for the info

  • They usually are the same, with the thermo couple being the main problem.
