Classic 1972 commercial featuring a young Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin of the Apollo XI (he was on the moon with Neil Armstrong).

In august 2008 I contacted Buzz through email. His assistent Christina Rasch replied: Thank you for the link to the VW commercial. Buzz said he remembers making the commercial well. As a matter of fact he said it didn't run very long because the computer that did the data to analyze the car wasn't really ready for the public and then a new version of the VW Bug came out.

It's great that he took the time to comment on this commercial after so many years!

The way the beetle in this commercial is displayed, clearly is a reference to Stanley Kubrick's film 2001 - a space odyssey.

I feel this commercial is a little technical, but it's funny to see the new high tech vw computer which analizes the beetle. Remember seeing a computer like this must have been an quit impressive sight those days!

From the DVD 'Legend on wheels'. Wanna have this DVD packed with 2 hours of high quality digitally remastered old vw commercials? The DVD really brings you back to the '60s and '70s. Send an email to: beetlejuice150@hotmail.com
