One thing I did not say in the video is that the SNP's election success is due to the collapse of the Lib Dem, and to a lesser extent Labour, votes. Rather than any desire from any significant section of Scotland wanting independence.

  • Your whole argument is also a very good case for expanding the politiacl links within the EU. Much stronger capable of competing with China, USA etc. So why limit it to just UK is that because the reality is England controls the other parts. We're all just provinces of England by any other name. As a member nation of the EU we have a voice, our people decided our own affairs, we do'nt get dragged to illegal wars, We regain pride in ourselfs.

  • @45housty The EU is a union which is constantly demanding more powers be centralised and taken from the member states. Even if it is democratic the larger the democracy the more the individual voice gets drowned out. The UK, while not perfect, is a union which respects the home nations and there is a culture of devolving powers. While I don't want to get into a debate about Iraq I would suggest listening to Christopher Hitchens on the subject. The EU is prepared to go into wars also.

  • I think what you are trying to say here is that together we are strong and alone we are weaker. I can see how frustrated you are and I feel the same.

If it is not broke, don't fix it.

Scotland is much stronger being partnered with England and I don't understand why now they would be willing to break with the union. What good will it do them? Why now? You don't hear the English going around asking to be 'independent' because we know that together we are stronger.

  • @rosstcorbett In some ways we are certainly stronger together such as economicly, diplomaticly and militarily. I am in favour of devolution and would like to see seperate and equal devolved governments in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (and possibly Cornwall) within a codified constitution with certain authorities given to the UK government like diplomatic relations, defence and financial markets and everything else being devolved to the Home Nations.

  • I can assure you that Scottish Independence does not revolve around "silly minor things", "sectarianism" nor "Anglophobia". You will be made more than welcome in Scotland when we gain our independence. I do fear for the English economy when they don't have us to prop them up. However, I have no doubt that in the long term, England (with intelligent young men like yourself) will have the talent and resources to thrive as an independent nation. I hope you have a lovely day. Saor Alba!

  • @fcgthumper1 Good responce. I will say that I when I say I fear for the United Kingdom I mean the Home Nations of the UK and not mearly the union between them. Funny how we've never had a referendum on the EU, dispite public support and pledges from political parties and at the same time anyone who whats to break up the UK are fully acomadated. I fear for scotland, where in the UK it maintained cultural distinction, I see an indipendent scotland being fed into the EU blender.

  • I still don't understand why people are calling me Youtube. I'm Not Youtube.

If anyone's Youtube it's you, given that you are the one ON Youtube?

Or is it like dear diary? In which case why are we watching this guys he's talking to Youtube. We're clearly evesdropping.

  • @rosstcorbett That stupid platitude "together we are strong " again... The Union weakens Scotland, The Union needs Scotland but Scotlands interest suffer in the Union. Scotland does not need the Union, and if you mean that illegal imperialist adventures will no lonfer be possible for England then all ppls around the world should support Scottish Independence

  • So if Scotland leaves the UK would not be a great power anymore?.. ok i can accept that but Scots are always told that that they make no real difference to the Union and now you are saying that its Scotland that makes the UK a "great power " i wish Unionists ould make up there minds... Scotland is not Yugoslavia, yae babble too much, I hope yer not going to be an army officer as it would be dunkirkand Iraq defeat all over again.. sorry son but yae know fuckall about the issue,,seriously Fuckall

What’s the relevance of this cheddar argument anyway? I’m supposed to have a boner because my country is in an out dated union, Constantly overlooked as just a region, hasn’t the same rights and privileges to represent itself like any other country in the western world but a hey Scot can run it? That’s like Georgia saying ‘Hey this USSR is a bit shit but hey at least Starling's one of us’. Yes I'm not in your league son I'm well above it.

  • @markdoncaster55

Hahah you type like an utter spastic you know that? His god name, whatever that’s supposed to mean, came from Scotland.... and? Are you aware of a famous actor named Clint Eastwood, well his last name is English but I’m pretty sure he’s American.
