he Rudd government's ETS legislation should finally pass Federal Parliament, either tonight or tomorrow, courtesy of the deal struck with the Opposition. That will mean Australia will have an emissions trading scheme starting in July 2011, the single biggest economic reform in years, maybe even decades. But it hasn't come cheap, the price tag an extra $7 billion, boosting total industry assistance to more than $120 billion by 2020. Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner says the ETS will have only a modest impact on the budget.

  • @germanicelt ......forget solar panels, the technology is lame and not advanced enough yet.

In the next 10/15 years all thoses fools that spent 10 of thousands dollars installing them in the private properties and thought they were doing something good, have a big surprise coming!

They will need replacing (dead money), and by then all this climate change hype will be obliterated.

  • I've heard that Tanner is a Marxist. He's as slimy as a snake any way.

  • @MRMILO57 - They deserve to be too. If climate change is the biggest moral challenge of our time, ever wonder why they borrow heaps of money to build extremely overpriced school buildings that aren't always needed, instead of investing in say solar panels for the people?

  • Copenhagen was a complete failure, Turnbull got dumped from the Liberals, Rudd still wants to try and get the ETS through, wants to flog that dead horse!

The environmentalist working in the Australian media are so pissed off nothing has gone there way!

The Australian Greens are completely devastated.

While Tony Abbott just breezes on in, with a lot of support, and all the attention!

Looks like Rudd and his government could a one term government!

  • extra tax scheme,no good no thanks as a labor supporter i would change to the liberal party over this issue if the liberal party has a sound stance that includes the little people on climate change and doesn't tax us to death anymore!
