i bet in this day and age i bet they had wish they had spend the £2m to renew it in 1956 (During surveys it was discovered that expensive repairs would be necessary to ensure the line's long term survival, at a cost of £2 million. The Liverpool Overhead Railway Company could not afford such costs and looked to both Liverpool City Council and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board for financial assistance. This was to no avail

My Grandad was a driver on the railway - I still have his watch he got when he retired. I'd only ever heard about it from my parents but it is great to see what it really looked like

That music was the signature tune of "Children's Favourites" in the 1950s and 1960s (BBC Light Programme, every Saturday morning).

Interesting film, I do remember hearing that the line was closing when I was little, I think I originally read about it in the 'Meccano Magazine', produced by a company also among Liverpool's highlights! I often wondered what it was like.

Many Thanks for happy memories of my childhood. I spent many happy hours on this as a child. i lived on Grafton Street and the LOR ran across the backs of our houses,I could see the Century Bldg clock from my bedroom window. I think one of my best memories was seeing the Empress of Canada laying on its side after being on fire. I was lucky enough to travel on one of the last trains to run, thanks to a driver who lived a few doors away from us. Happy Days, Jim 280101
