An excerpt from a 90 min. DVD of edited highlights from New Directions in Linguistic and Cultural Diversity, a Symposium hosted by the Research Centre for Languages and Cultures, University of South Australia, in Adelaide, South Australia 2 - 3 December 2010. The symposium discussions focused on an exchange of research and knowledge of the best practices in: literacy, first language (mother tongue), bilingual and multilingual education among indigenous and minority communities around the world. One of the goals of the symposium was to contribute towards reinvigorating a flow of research amongst linguists in Africa, South Asia, Europe and Australia. It is further hoped that this exchange will contribute towards identifying new directions for the management and sustainability of diverse languages in changing urban contexts and remote settings in Australia as well as other contexts which face similar challenges. This DVD is a publication of the:Research Centre for Languages and Cultures University of South Australia.
