For filmmaker Rob Stewart, exploring sharks began as an underwater adventure. What it turned into was a beautiful and dangerous life journey into the balance of life on earth. Driven by passion fed from a life-long fascination with sharks, Stewart debunks historical stereotypes and media depictions of sharks as bloodthirsty, man-eating monsters and reveals the reality of sharks as pillars in the evolution of the seas. Filmed in visually stunning, high definition video, Sharkwater takes you into the most shark rich waters of the world, exposing the exploitation and corruption surrounding the world's shark populations in the marine reserves of Cocos Island, Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. In an effort to protect sharks, Stewart teams up with renegade conservationist Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Their unbelievable adventure together starts with a battle between the Sea Shepherd and shark poachers in Guatemala. Resulting in pirate boat ramming, gunboat chases, mafia espionage, corrupt court systems and attempted murder charges, forcing them to flee for their lives. Through it all, Stewart discovers these magnificent creatures have gone from predator to prey, and how despite surviving the earth's history of mass extinctions, they could easily be wiped out within a few years due to human greed. Stewart's remarkable journey of courage and determination changes from a mission to save the world's sharks, into a fight for his life, and that of humankind.

  • I am cold, and i allmost cried, i love Sharks

  • I don't think this changed anything. People are still killing sharks, and they really have no right to. Sharks were here before us, and when you enter into their territory there's a chance of getting bit. Humans think they own the world, that they can get rid off what they don't like. Well I absolutely DESPISE bugs, but it doesn't mean I want to kill every last one of them. We need them! Mosquitoes kill more people than sharks, and car crashes are responsible for thousands of deaths. Save sharks

  • Oh ya and GO SHARKS!!!!! finally a movie that doesn't say that sharks are killers!!!

  • Ok just to clear things up for everyone, anyone who kills anything for food and not to keep it from suffering is mental, only caring about money, a bitch, or an asshole. So whoever is saying that I'm wrong can go fuck themselves in HELL.

  • @VshuFFle

Except this is about an attempt to exterminate sharks entirely. Chickens reproduce at an excessively faster rate than sharks and chickens (unlike sharks) are not on the verge of being extinct. One day, dumb people like you will realize that different animals have different characteristics and that regardless of this, humans should have this intelligence to not claim "I'm the dominant species so I can do whatever the fuck I want." It's immature and foolish.

Well, I'm a vegetarian ass hole. And regardless of if you eat meat or not, this is cruel and heartless. The pigs, cows, etc you eat are raised to be killed. The fish and other creatures we harvest from the ocean are NOT raised for food. They are fished to the point of near extinction and slaughtered for only specific pieces of their flesh whereas slaughter houses make use of every part of the animal they can (ever wonder what's in your hot dog?) So learn the difference, moron

  • im the president of animal protection org. "" USA Earth Rebels"" .every1 remember ""95 % of all animal cruelty in the world is done by Asians or for Asians"",and that is the most important sentence to say out loud.

  • Okay, do I have to give all of you ignorant asses a lesson in marine biology? First of all, killing chickens, cows, pigs, etc., doesn't pose a threat to their species or their survival. They just keep reproducing, get it? Second, sharks do not reproduce at a rate that can keep up with the amount of sharks that are killed every year. The Great White matures very slowly and only produces about one pup in it's lifetime. Can you really compare this to killing farm animals?
