VJ was in a mood to make something new because he has been messing with the SegaCD and found the cheapest game he ever bought for it. Yeah at 99 cents Virtua Fighter 1 was pretty cheap but he bought his used Sol-Feace at Funcoland for 49 cents :)
The intros are cool, but the game is just an average side scrolling shooter.
Blah blah blah... At least I got to be in another video ..

  • Bah ha ha, I remember seeing this rot when a friend of mine bought the Sega CD new, for like $300 or something, and after seeing some of the crude and choppy intro (like at about 5:35), I was like "what the hell? THIS is supposed to be real fantastic?" And that was before I found out it was just a side-scrolling shooter!

And after watching a bit of Sewer Shark I didn't want to play that one either :P

  • Sewer Shark and Mansion of the Hidden Souls are the only two segaCD games I have beaten. I still play tomcat alley and microcosm often.

  • I think you mean 49 cents... 0.49 cents is less than half a cent! ;-)

Anyway, to me it's strange to hear such clear voices played together with the crude (by today's standards) graphics. And GCS-WT? I'd call it the GCS-WTF!

  • VJ was having trouble with his math last night :)

Voice acting has not changed much at all where as graphics have made some amazing changes.

  • @vwestlife GCS-WT = Game Creative Staff----Wolf Team!

  • Everybody is so happy in this intro...

  • i love that intro song

  • I NEVER BEAT THIS DAMNED GAME, but I was a kid then. I'm gonna download it now and have my revenge.

  • This game had an epic intro, with amazing graphics, sound, voice and music. It actually impresses me more now than it did then.

Wolf-Team always made incredible-quality anime cut scenes in all their games. Why can't we get that now? I hate 3-D rendered shit.

  • Oh yeah, I loved the updated music! It was way better than the original's, that sounded pretty tinny, what with the weak Genesis chip ('course there's ways to get around it though).

I recorded several of the tunes from it and plan on smashing around to them once I get a new drum set at some point :)

  • Actually Feace came first in Japan on the X68000 (1990) and Mega-CD (1991). Sol-Feace was a Mega-CD/Sega-CD launch title in each territory.

Sure it's nothing more than a typical SHMUP, but the controls were so fluid and that music was amazing. The Redbook audio makes me love Feace much more than Deace.

  • Damn, Mansion of Hidden Souls, wish I had that one.

I just don't understand why Sega released this, this was the exact same game as Sol-Deace on the Genesis (exact same level select and 99 ship secrets too!), just with an intro added on, and the ending on the original was better! I hope no one bought this thinking it was a sequel to Sol-Deace.
