  • this is great, and i don't know the recording -- what is it taken from? is it a radio broadcast?

  • I took it from the soundtrack of a film. The film was The pleasure of being robbed. The director said that it is a very rare recording of that song. I don't know where he get it ^^ But i think it's the most beautifull recording..

  • yaaah...thank for post this gem! Monk and Bird make me cry,ever...

  • I enjoy how monk will play with groups, and at times, start to dance and not play at all, but yet he can still play just as strong all alone.

  • I love the introduction were monk is speaking

  • thank you so much for this tromaI217 !!

  • Chord changes I meant.

  • I saw the movie as well. Monk had a mental illness, but you wouldn't know it judging his music. I really have a Passion for his music, the colors and child changes etc. A genius.....

  • @tromal217 This version was recorded by the actual Baroness Pannonica at her place soon after Monk wrote the song. She was staying at Hotel Bolivar and Monk would compose and rehearse a lot there. You can hear her saying "Thank you Thelonious Monk" at the end of the original recording.

  • Beautiful.....

  • i too saw the film you've referred to, saw it at an indie theater in atlanta's Buckhead section of town, about 20 years ago. the film was titled Straight, No Chaser - it's a music-documentary on Thelonious' life in music. Awesome footage and soundtrack. It's now available on CD, and I once had the cassette version. So, it's out there, probably the DVD too. Look it up. Well worth having in collection mode. from teacawks@yahoo.com
