On the TV show Babylon 5 the Earth Alliance placed battle satellites around the Earth as a last ditch effort to stop Membari. The creators of B5 payed homage to a lot of old sci fi, it would not surprise me if they had been inspired by this episode.

Yes, this is nearly 40 years old, and STILL ahead of anything out NOW. This series was so ahead of its time,and as a kid,i loved this series more than anything else. Now, I'm let's say, much older lol.. and this is a charm. And in many ways, the creators were not far from reality, as I think that space borne ships will carry lots of familiar features present on modern day ships.
