I can just say, the idea of the ribbons with bells was great! I agree that there needs to be a balance, and as a new pagan and one who wishes to practice (while gaining knowledge) I am glad there and sensible vids out here which explain things in a clear way. I am preparing some items ready for my dedication rite (after learning and reading up on wicca for a while) and am very glad to have stumbled across this vid. :)

Hunting can be a very spiritual experience.
But if your not interested in that, just look out for animal remains, go find some lynchets, usually a really great place in the UK for finding things like Badger Skulls. If you don't do that, Buy animal parts whole sale from China... WHy would you want to use animals debris anyway?
I find it interesting that a lot of pagans would go through elaborate ceremonies to take wood from a tree or only take fallen wood but then buy leather for wrapping a wand etc without thinking twice. I did it myself after reading books and sources online when delving into paganism. It was only after I went vegan and started reconsidering everything I was doing that I realised how bizarre that was. Thanks for the tips on animal dervived items taken without cruelty, the cat hair idea is EXCELLENT

Isnt it though? I will admit to buying leather, but I at least do some research and learn where it is the companies get the raw material. Of course, whenever possible, I use materials from my own kills too. The cat hair idea is not alone, actually.... Lots of animals give of themselves freely (spiders, most mammals, snakes, birds) So yeah... Glad you liked!

Great video! This is something not talked about that often. My man and I take ceremonial tobacco with us on our "tools" hunts, and leave it as an offering to the nature spirits in the area.
We also purchase furs/leathers/etc from a leather place that knows where the leathers come from, and that they are ethically killed animals.
Your comments on cat fur is GREAT. We also collect our cat's wiskers (he has GIANT white ones that fall out often...they're also rather bushy) for tools.

Rock on! Its nice to see those that think before they buy or gather... Its refreshing, in fact.

Awesome Vid I agree. Honor the animals, trees, etc that you are gathering your items from.
I have a Book of Shadows that comes from India and the leather came from cattle that died of Natural causes and the paper is made from cotton and linen fibers =)

Thanks! This has always been something that just blew me away, all things considered. It takes so very little to put some thought into what you use, and it adds to the energy of the piece, as well! My BOS isnt as spiffy as yours, alas.. I made the paper myself (from recycled paper) and wove the cover with birch, willow and silk threads though, so there is that!
