The aria "Glitter and be gay" from "Candide" sung by Diana Damrau at the WM-Concert 2006. For those who want to see the video too.

  • @kuhayelahh If you knew anything of Voltaire's original Candide, you would know that Ms. Damrau's acting here is entirely appropriate for the role. As for Chenoweth, you really can't compare the two as she sings the Aria in its broadway aspects while Damrau focuses on more of the mechanistic, operatic side of the role. Both are great anyways in my opinion, in their provided atmospheres of course.

  • The transformation from this to the Queen of the Night is so unbelievable...this is talent in it's most pure form

  • 夜の女王も素晴らしいですが、彼女の十八番はこれじゃないかな?

  • It's abasing to have this great song and her beautiful voice in your head all the time cause you can't sing it yourself...:(

  • She has a great instrument, solid technique and a capacity for acting greater than many others these days. However, her musical timing is off 80% in the parlando moments here and her acting decays to the eccentric so much so that (for me at least) Cungonde loses all credibility as a character.

It looks as though she has seen Dessay's spastic interpretations.

  • Diana Damrau is the best singer I know. In my oppinion she's even better as Netrebko. And her Performances are so great!

  • @Poet2916 All I can say is, don't be afraid of using American diction. Opera singers always sing this aria much to dark for my taste. Make it light, make it bright.

  • How amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I heart this woman!

  • @Poet2916 Well, you need to be just a BIT crazy- with greed and all, because after all- it IS Voltaire. As for Chenowethian influence...just try playing this like Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd, or any other comic relief in a tragedy. Be serious, but have a few quirks that just make the audience giggle because they HAVE to after all the godforsaken DRAMA.

  • perfect:)
