i can't stress how difficult it going to be to get into the JET Program this year enough, my prefecture is making increasing cuts, when i became an ALT there were about 70 Senior High ALTs, this year there were about 35, next year there are only going to be between 10-15 positions and I am pretty sure that no new JETs will be brought in, but that is just for my prefecture, i can only hope that other prefectures are not as bad.

I made the decision to not apply for JET 2010. The decision has left me pretty bummed because it is something I really wanted to do.. but sometimes you have to make the hard choices. I will go on vacation there again though.

Thanks for the reply; on a whim I googled it and found this on the Jet programme forums; not sure about its validity: "As said by the embassy:
Stapling each section of each packet together is fine. For example. Staple the 8 pages of application together. Staple the 2 pages of physical self assessment together. Staples your statement of purpose (page 1 and 2 together)."
I'm a bit relieved.

best of luck! :)
What if our the people who wrote our Letters of Rec. stapled them together (if the letters are multi-page) ? (Actually, I'm not sure if they did because all of the copies are in a sealed envelop.

@11889music I think that would be fine. No one is going to get denied entry into JET over a few staples, but it does show that you can follow directions if you do your packet correctly and inform your letter writers not to staple, but I'm sure they open the sealed envelopes and then just unstaple if needed.

Hey Jason, your vblog is great ;)
I just sent my application package to D.C. (fingers crossed). I know the JET program weeds out up to 10% of applicants immediately due to flaws in the online application. I should have triple checked, but I submitted the online app without filling in the dates of which my place of residence will be viable. I wrote the correct permanent address, but do you think this will hinder my chances of acceptance? Nothing I can do now, but just curious. Thanks!!

@yamatoD if it's a really minor mistake, they might overlook it, but I just don't know to be honest. I hope it all goes well for you anyway.

How big a deal do you think it is that I collated and paper clipped each packet (original + 2 copies) as requested but stapled the particular sections together? E.G., I stapled each 9 page application together such that they were san satu; stapled both pages of my transcript together; and so on.

Well, part of the app process is a test for following directions - and if you didn't follow directions, then that's not good. But my guess is that the staple thing is more an annoyance thing that a disqualification thing - someone will just have to un-staple those sections to read them, etc. Overall, no big deal.
