As a test of the video function on my new DSLR (a Canon 500D) combined with the wide angle lens. Due to not being able to see the screen while recording, I cut off the top of my head for most of it, but you can see the important stuff.

The title of the video hints that I'm planning to make more unedited, one take tutorials on various subjects, and mostly about juggling.

  • Great tutorial, one question though: what if you just spray painted one side of the ring? it seems like that would have the same effect and would be a lot easier to do, but I'm sure there's a reason you don't just do that? i guess it would be more permanent but i bet this sticky papers tough to get off also

  • @RJSzubay516 I have sets of rings that are spray painted. It doesn't work that creat, but was really handy when I needed the rings coloured in a hurry before a show! The paint doesn't stick. Maybe if you have paint designed for plastic it would work better... but does spray paint for plastic exist? Or does it need primer and then a coat of wax and varnish? I didn't experiment too much.

  • Hey Luke!

Brilliant tutorial - really nice quality for a DSLR as well! Would certainly like to see more tutorials from you like this, unless you plan on starting back up with the podcast anytime soon? No matter, always good to see stuff from you - a true professional!

    Many thanks

    Mark

  • The Juggling Podcast is in limbo at the moment, so I'm thinking of concentrating on things like this: things that would be impossible to share via audio alone. And like the "Packing My Juggling Case" video from back in February.

  • i would do this except i'm terrified of terrified of stanley knives. once i was working on my juggling balls with a stanley knife my finger got sliced pretty badly i went into full blown shock all in all that was the worst day of my life hence why im scared of stanleys

  • @lukeburrage paint needs a rough surface to stick on, try roughing it up a little with some wet and dry paper,

  • This is a brilliant idea! Have you juggled with them long enough to see if they deteriorate or rip with prolonged use?

  • great video thanks i might do it with my rings

  • can you change them back? like take the sticky paper away again

  • very good

thank you very much, really nice effect

  • Ah yes, I remember that packing video of yours as well - another interesting video! Well, like I say, keep the videos coming because we all love them!

  • very nice tutorial. I think I'd like to try this out because that really is a nice trick.
