Hounen Matsuri is a fertility festival held yearly on March 15th in Tagata Jinja, Japan. The festival is centered around carrying the wooden phallus mikoshi (portable shrine) between two shrines.

A new phallus is crafted for the festival each year from cypress. The penis is 9ft long and weighs 620 pounds. Couples come to the festival and pray at the shrine for conception or a safe childbirth.

Free sake is handed out to the crowd throughout the festival. At the end of the procession, everyone gathers at the square and waits for "mochi nage," where the officials throw large balls of mochi into the crowd from raised platforms.
