@xlxfjh I agree with your premise - in that time frame it was definitely a man's song but for me it still works - maybe just consider it the "other parent's" song. Anyway I find it very poignant and like Vikki and this arrangement. In some ways it's even more emotional for a mother to be lamenting the loss of a daughter. Big hit for Vikki Carr so the public wasn't hung up on who got custody. I have thought about that aspect of the song many times. Nicely done vid mix.

@xlxfjh For me the lyric can be applied to whoever facing the divorce issue without sex concerned.
As the key issue is involving with the feeling of left apart and seperation by leaving another part to proceed his or her life in the future alone routinely .
The sentiment of the song is very touching in liu of memory about family task point in common life .Child abusive is not major point but gentle caring is the woman's task that she wondering if the man can handle as best as her

@mafeung1 The lyrics only make sense from a man's point of view. They concern an impending divorce, and the assumption that the woman will win full custody of the child. This situation was very common when the song was written. Women were only denied custody if they were found to be abusive or unable to properly care for the child. In light of that, it is kind of a dumb move for a female singer to touch this one. Maybe Ms. Carr didn't think too much about the lyrics...
This song is always impressive ! And Vikki is splendid.
Thank you for posting.
