  • i'm not an expert, i shot and edited the video. but i'm fairly certain you can't tile over a tile surface. there's not enough porosity in the tile for the mortar to adhere to. mosaics are projects that you want to do right the first time because of the time commitment.

  • Beautifull work!!

  • Of course you can tile over a "Tiled Surface"! All you need to do is prime it first with a PVA adhesive, (Unibond) or similar. Thought that was obvious.

  • This has been the best video for this subject. Straightforward and easy to understand. Thank you.

  • Thank you, one of the better video of explaining how to tile and grout mosaic. Great Job!!!!

  • GREAT, GREAT and GREAT. Fantastic informativ for at "beginner" from Denmark. :-)

    Thanks Eli.....

  • VERY informative! You are one of the very few who posted an instructional vid to accomplish this. Pat yourself on the back.

  • Thanks Soooo much for the concise explanation. Very helpful. I like this Eli Smith.

  • @GAGuild Thank you very much, that makes sense to me. And thank you for the insight on the counter needing to be stronger because of its use. I will do what you suggested and head over to a store to pick up the triangle tool.

  • Tiles need to be spaced well. If the tiles touch it will be a weak spot due to the lack of grout. Counters take alot of beating, so it should be strong! The time consuming part of mosaics is cutting and arranging each tile so it all fits together with the spacing between the tiles 1/4" to 3/4". Closer to 1/4" is ideal.

The triangle tool is diamond-edged. It is harder than the tile and you use it to dull the sharp and jagged edges of broken tile before you mortar them in. Makes for asafer mosaic
