@Fanghur170 ...Possibly the builders, having failed their assault on the Goddesses, found a magical and mysterious mask in Hell, (seeing as their plan was to go up into the heavens, but with it upside down, well, you see what I'm getting at), and used it for rituals and such that the Happy Mask Salesman described, before the people sealed Majora's Mask away again.

Chuggaa, there's also something that adds to that theory of Stone Tower that you missed; there's 4 tours around the temple seen before you enter, and they, to put it bluntly, look like penises. The Ikanians, or their predecessors, created it to also show how their 4 male Guardian Giant deities were better. Also, when you enter the flipped temple, that giant statue with the big eyes and the cage around the warp point looks like Majora's Mask...
