Removing the backlight on an HP DV1000 laptop. Most of the steps can also be applied to other LCD panels. For educational purposes only. Don't forget to watch in HD.

  • Hello! Great Video!

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ381P. My screen is dark but you can slightly see the image if you look closely. When you connect the laptop to another monitor you can see it everything perfectly. This means i have a backlight problem right? And if so, then is this how my backlight can be replaced? Because it is attached to the LCD screen, on my model.

Cant wait to hear your reply! : )

    Thanks for any help.

  • @anjis26 It is most likely either a bad inverter or a bad bulb. I would try a replacement inverter first as it is way easier to replace since you don't have to tear apart your screen. If you do need to replace the bulb then I will says this - "proceed with caution". lol This video shows the general steps involved and there may be variations based on different laptops. Some bulbs will require soldering.

    All the best,

  • @loand83 yes, you can make it worse. You can make it not work at all :)

  • @streamhub

at that moment i am able to see just enought to choose "windows" from grub dualboot and use windows on external tv...

if something goes wrong during bulb replacement does that affect the screen , can I make it even worsed?

  • @streamhub

thanks for an answear...yes I was confident to replace inverter, clean fan etc but that bulb looks like the job and not sure yet if will try to fix it.

    Best of Luck!

  • @loand83 pink color & dark = bad bulb. People have mixed results with the repair, your mileage may vary.

  • @streamhub

completly black screen on my laptop, sometimes screen has pinky colours but still is so dark that cant see nothing, replaced inverter but hasnt solved the problem....external monitor works so blacklight bulb? needs to be replaced or look for another inverter? lcd cable?

great video, very helpfull but I am not sure I will put it all back together :)

    best of Luck!

  • There are many very light gauge metal bits that fit together somewhat neatly. I have good 3-d perception which allowed me to fit all this back together properly, but a few good photos might help with re-assembly if you are afraid of forgetting where all the screws go- oh ya, I had about 6 screws left over, but all the important ones are in place, and the picture on this oldie but goodie is now well lit and colorful... No little jumpy zaps either, definitely the lamp was causing the problem.
