A mystery art collector who recently bid $40m for two Chinese sculptures is refusing to pay.

The bronze heads were part of an auction of the collection of French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who died last year.

But Cai Mingchao says his renegade bid was the act of a patriot, claiming that the sculptures belong in China. Tania Page reports.

  • "I'll only return the stole goods if you would change your national policy because I'm a smelly Frenchman." What an asshole.

  • Tibet has been part of China since the Yuan Dynasty, before the Europeans colonized other countries. Now people in the West want Tibet to be separate from China, for China to forget all the crimes their ancestors committed against them, for China to pay for things that were stolen from them. If this was done to your people and country, I doubt you would be so compliant to them.

  • 记住这个无耻的名字:Pierre Bergé

  • fucking make france pay for what they did..... china has been to friendly ...... make them feel the anger and wrath of the dragon..

  • @jackrowet1234 Fair enough, if Berge felt so concerned about the welfare of Tibey - they why not make an International statement and GIFT the heads to the Dalai Lama. Bottom line, he's MONEY hungry and no matter the implications, will hide behind any veil to justify it and besides which - the irony of the matter is, had it not been for the lack lustre human rights status of China - I doubt him and his partnet would have an alleged clothing empire to speak of? Aaah - KARMA - don't u love it?

  • @bjan87 If Berge cared that much about the welfare of the Dalai Lama and Tibet - then why not make a moral statement in support of his alleged viewpoint - and gift it to the Dalai Lama. Bottom line - the queen is MONEY hungry just like the thieving bastards who stole it in the first place.

  • Oh, and stop following me around, attacking EVERYTHING I say.

Your relentless quest to discredit me, makes you look like an idiot, because you don't even read what I post, and you reply is so irrelivent a feel bad for your service provider.

  • Fuck countries. My goal is a better WORLD. I will improve Canada, China, Tibet, ect ect.

    Please back up you accusations.

I will continue to use fucking vulgarities, regardless of your feelings. Sensthitive boy, aren't you? hahaha.

  • This person jackrowet1234 canadian goes around shouting abuses, insults, stereotypes

why do you use vulgarities for what? Our country is bad? Is that really ur business? Why don't u do something constructive to your own country instead?

  • I think it's an obvious sack of caque. They're quite obviously China's wares or property. if they were looted give them back from the standpoint of the civilised world at hand.

Why we need a stuck-up voice over and the display of "An Art Expert" (Do people take that kind of terminology seriously still???) is rather like a 5 year old trying to justify why he stole the biscuits.

Its odd but in these instances one would imagine a bigger international intellectuality. Give back stolen goods!
