@youtert Yes and No. In terms of ship design, yes it is in the wrong place. In terms of set placements, its not.
To have the Engine Room, you just place a wall in front of the corridor, and put the pool table in the intersection. To have a large corridor intersection, you cover up the office and the warp core with a wall piece and with the right camera angles, you have a completely different place on the ship. Nothing but camera angles and set decorations.

3:30 they're clearly about to fire the Death Star at Alderon.

@captainmorganhook You're wrong. While most of it was a model, there were the occasional odd shots that were done in CG. Apparently they thought the first one was so bad that they started from scratch the second time they did it. I think there is a shot in "The survivors" that is a CG enterprise. I don't remember where the others are. Also I believe I recall the opening sequence of voyager is not 1 but 2 different CG versions.

Model makers are a lost art now. The CGI didn't start til the mid season of Star Trek Voyager.

5:11 Abuse of the word "literally"!

@simpsonfan1995 How ironic. For the longest time, I was convinced that the Enterprise in ST:TNG actually WAS CGI, until I saw this featurette.

1:16 That's the replicator effect, not the transporter effect!

@Futurevoiceactor I love the creativity that went into special effects before CGI. I am much more entertained by the great stories in shows like this than by most shows today with all their technical stuff. I guess I learned to use my imagination by reading books. Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: TNG rule. "But you don't have to take my word for it"

George Lucas screwed over the golden age of special effects by using CG. Then again he made restoration possible.
Screw the modern special effects we have today, This is what made shows like this great! Without them, we wouldn't even have those modern effects that everyone uses now. This is what pioneered it all, and I'm proud to be a NG Trekkie
