Remember... at the time Napoleon was considered one of the greatest military minds which had ever existed up until that point, being defeated by Toussaint on two different occasions shows that Toussaint himself was a great tactician as well. - He is right up there with Napoleon, Hitler, Caesar, Agrippa, Scipio and Hannibal I would say.
Interesting how the best military minds almost always make themselves 'first citizen' as soon as the revolution ends...
