The Dainava Lithuanian Chorale was founded in 1950 in Hanau, Germany by Lithuanian refugees who had fled their home country from Soviet occupation. Reorganizing in the Chicago area, the chorale set forth to preserve Lithuanian culture though song, while maintaining a strong resolve to see their country regain independence.

In the early 1990's, the spirit of freedom took momentum in Lithuania, as citizens flooded the streets of Vilnius and other cities and towns, in an unprecedented movement dubbed "The Singing Revolution." Armed with only their voices in song and their spiritual belief, they confronted their oppressor. On January 13, 1991, Soviet tanks ran over innocent civilians, killing fourteen. On January 23, 2011, in honor of the souls who made their ultimate sacrifice for freedom, the Dainava Lithuanian Chorale performed a concert entitled "Aukos Dvasia" ("The Spirit of Sacrifice").

"Agnus Dei," is the fifth movement of John Rutter's "Requiem," in the version used in the Tridentine Requiem Mass. "Lamb of God, who takes away the sings of the world, grant them rest..."

"Requiem" by British composer John Rutter is a musical setting of an adaptation of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass, and it was completed in 1985. A very lyrical choral piece with an orchestral accompaniment, the piece contains many dissonant chords which are very popular in modern choral music. The Requiem was first performed in October of 1985. The Dainava Lithuanian Chorale performs Rutter's "Agnus Dei" combining both Latin and Lithuanian.
